I AM A CHILD OF GOD
Doctrine and Covenants 138:55-56 – 55 I observed that they were also among the noble and great ones who were chosen in the beginning to be rulers in the Church of God. 56 Even before they were born, they, with many others, received their first lessons in the world of spirits and were prepared to come forth in the due time of the Lord to labor in his vineyard for the salvation of the souls of men.

LESSON & ACTIVITY
During this lesson,
- Who is Heavenly father?
- Where does Heavenly Father live?
Before we came to the Earth, we lived in Heaven with Heavenly Father. We were spirits there.
- What is a Spirit?
A spirit is what is inside of us, it makes us alive. In Heaven, we were spirits without bodies of flesh and bone. Heavenly Father is the father of our spirits, and we are his spirit children.
- How do we know we are Heavenly Father’s spirit children?
READ Psalm 82:6
- What does the most High mean?
Every person on earth is a child of Heavenly Father. He loves each and every one of us. He knows each of our names and all about us.
Use the characteristics for each person to vie examples of things He knows about each of us.
Example: “He knows Julie is kind and loving towards animals.”
We can grow to be like Heavenly Father.
Example: What is a baby dog called? What does the puppy grow up to be? (Show picture of puppies and picture of dogs.)What is a baby chicken called? What does the chick grow up to be? (repeat with these pictures as you did with dog pictures)
Just like baby animals grow to be like their parents, we can grow to be like our parents. Heavenly Father is the father of our spirits, so we can grow to be like Him.
- What ways can we be like Heavenly Father?
Explain to the children how you now Heavenly Father loves them. Explain to them why it is important to strive to be like Heavenly Father and how being like Heavenly Father has blessed your life.
